Dash Express GPS review pt. 3 – Almost there…but not quite yet
3I covered a couple of problems with the Dash Express GPS receiver in part 1 and part 2 of my review, but there’s a growing list of frustration with the Dash that make it feel like I’m more of a beta tester instead of a paying customer.
- Routing Issues – The primary function of a GPS receiver is to get you where you need to go as quickly and efficiently as possible. For basic GPS devices, it’s their only function. So why does it seem like Dash has such a hard time with it. As I admitted before, this is my first GPS receiver, so some of the routing issues could be bad map data from More >
WE ARE…SO BORED!
3Currently stuck in a hotel in Marshall, TX. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, to do in Marshall, TX. And I don’t want to drive back to Longview. On the plus side, my room is quite nice.
Firefox, Schmirefox
5Apparently, Firefox 3.0 was released this week, which is like some kind of big deal or something. I wouldn’t know. Opera 9.5 making it out of beta, now that’s a big deal. Opera runs circles around Firefox, is more customizable, and more attractive (especially with the new version). It also displays pages better (although, I’m comparing it to the shipping version of Firefox on my Eee Pc, which admittedly is out-of-date since I know nothing about Linux, and also on a tiny tiny screen). Anyway, before you fall over yourself trying to get the newest version of Netscape in a fur coat, give More >
Unfortunate advertising placement
0First of all: a disclaimer. The fervor behind politics mixed with the bravado behind an anonymous internet connection truly brings out the worst in people. That, and the fact that politics don’t really fit into the niche I’m attempting to carve here, means that despite the coming hurricane of idiocracy that comes with people arguing politics with complete strangers via keyboard, you won’t see any much of it here. That said, this was too funny to pass up.
If you’re at all into the…ugh, “social” web (I feel dirty for just typing it), you’ve probably heard about the little video that makes More >
Na-na-na na, na-na-na na, hey heyyyyy, goodbye cable modem
3I’ve mentioned before the issues I was having with my cable internet service. Well, now that I’m no longer an unemployed guy with too much free time, and I’m now officially a telecommuter (there are surprising similarities, except now I’m paid, so that’s nice), my internet connection is very important. And my Time Warner connection started dropping, routinely, in the morning, and coming back sometime around 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening. Customer service was no help, and the technician they were supposed to send never showed, never called, and no one followed up on the open service call. More >
R.I.P. Tim Russert
1Tim,
You were one of the last respectable TV journalists. While your passing may let many a politician and CEO breathe a sigh of relief, the rest of us are worse off for your passing. We can only hope that you’re sitting down at a table this Sunday morning, grilling St. Peter about when the Pearly Gates are actually going to get fixed.

GPS survey mocks Nintendo Wii
4Funnily enough, while writing up part two of my review of the Dash Express GPS receiver, I received an email invitation to a customer survey about my experience with Dash. It was a thorough survey – they really seem like they do care what customers think, so that’s a good sign. However, while filling out the page that reduces me to a demographic based on my tech-savvy purchases, I didn’t expect to find this sharp little barb. I know people give the Wii flack for having too many “casual” games, but this is just mean.
Jeez, Dash…tell us what you really More >
