This is where I tells ya what’s what, ya see?

Japan's view of the US: the best we have to offer includes a wealthy industry heir who spends his time goofing around in martial-arts tournaments, and an obnoxious fat guy.

Random thoughts about Street Fighter IV (not exactly a review)

  • Street Fighter IV is a lot of fun, and feels like a perfect evolution from Street Fighter II, which is perfect for me since I never got into the Alpha games or SF III.
  • While online matches are lag free more often than not, the rest of the online mode is broken.  The lobby system is just painful, there’s no way to have more than two people in a game/lobby at once, the lack of blind character selects can lead to balance problems (I wish I could count the number of Zangiefs and Guiles chosen after I choose Chun-Li), and the ranking system is weak. This needs to be fixed, period.

Dash Express GPS review pt. 3 – Almost there…but not quite yet

3

I covered a couple of problems with the Dash Express GPS receiver in part 1 and part 2 of my review, but there’s a growing list of frustration with the Dash that make it feel like I’m more of a beta tester instead of a paying customer.

  • Routing Issues – The primary function of a GPS receiver is to get you where you need to go as quickly and efficiently as possible. For basic GPS devices, it’s their only function. So why does it seem like Dash has such a hard time with it. As I admitted before, this is my first GPS receiver, so some of the routing issues could be bad map data from More >

My Road Trip with Dash (continued)

After acquiring my Dash Express GPS (read about it here), my first real test with it was my road trip to Houston. You know, for business (not “business”). It’s my first and only GPS system, so I unfortunately don’t have a TomTom or a Garmin to compare it with, but my understanding is that they all have their own little quirks. Dash got me to the Houston area just fine, although it did have a strange habit of recalculating the route every 80 miles or so, as though I’d exited the highway, even when I hadn’t.

When I arrived in the greater-Houston area around rush hour, the best feature of the More >

Grand Theft Auto IV – Full Review

Here’s the entirety of my Grand Theft Auto IV impressions and review, all gathered up into a neat little pile for you:

GTA IV – The Final Word

Grand Theft Auto IV is a great game. It’s fun, it’s impressive, and it has plenty to justify the $60 price, well after the 30-40 hour single player campaign. So, taking that into perspective, the fact is that GTA IV is more evolutionary than revolutionary.

The single-player story starts out strong, but loses steam near the end. The multiplayer is great on the surface, but feels undercooked. The graphics are impressive until you notice some texture pop-in, or notice a glitch. For every gameplay element that feels right and satisfying, there’s an awkward control, or something that still More >

GTA IV – Multiplayer

One of the biggest new features of Grand Theft Auto IV was the brand-new multiplayer modes. GTA hasn’t had proper multiplayer since my friends and I got together and had a LAN match playing the original GTA, so it’s been a while. Rockstar jammed a crapload of multiplayer modes into the game to dramatically extend the life of the title, well after the 30+ hour story mode and hours of running over civilians and trying to get away from the fuzz. The problem is, the multiplayer mode is just as frustrating as it is awesome.

The good stuff first: there are tons of modes, all of which take place More >

My Road Trip with Dash

3

I’ve had my Dash Express GPS for a few weeks now, but I haven’t had the chance to really put it through its paces until last week, went I went down to Houston on business (not “business”). The Dash is unique in that it’s a GPS device with a built in GPRS internet connection that’s always on. This makes the Dash unique in four ways:

  1. Live traffic: This is the primary reason I chose the Dash over other GPS systems. The Dash displays traffic for all roads (not just highways) from a third-party traffic provider, historical data, and – this is the cool part – other Dash users. See, the Dash More >
