This is not the greatest film in the world (this is just a tribute)

Despite my belief that this YouTube thing is just a fad, occasionally there is some mild entertainment to be found amongst the teens desperate for attention and the busty women talking about words. But I was pleasantly surprised to discover barringer82 and his stash of filmmaker tributes. They’re painstakingly edited clip tributes that not only show off more of the memorable scenes and moments from the filmmakers’ works, but really capture the essence of their films as well. And they’ve prompted me to go directly to my Blockbuster queue and start moving stuff around.  Clips after the jump.

He has quite a few of these, but I thought I’d share just these tributes to a few of my favorite filmmakers. These first two are tributes to Martin Scorsese films. There are a lot of great moments in here, and it just makes me realize that there are a ton of Scorsese movies I still need to see.

I’ve just remembered how much I liked Casino and The Color of Money, and how long it’s been since I’ve seen either of them. I also remember seeing the Nic Cage as ambulance driver movie when it was in theaters, but can’t remember any of the film beyond that.  Also, Wilem Dafoe makes for a really creepy Jesus.

This next one is a tribute to P.T. Anderson. This has prompted me to queue up Sidney/Hard Eight. Damn, that was a good movie. They’re all good, actually. I would know, because I’ve seen all of them, as far as you know. Because I most assuredly saw There Will Be Blood in the theaters, and didn’t miss it because I didn’t have a chance to go, and most certainly don’t regret it not seeing it now, since I did in fact see it. As far as you know.

Here’s barringer82’s tribute to Quentin Tarantino. Death Proof really was cool, even the talk-talk-talk parts. It’s also apparent, even from these tribute clips, how much Tarantino and Anderson owe to Scorsese, even though they’re both excellent filmmakers in their own right.

Finally, here’s my favorite tribute of all of these, barringer82’s tribute to the Coen Brothers. Even the Coen’s “bad” movies, like The Hudsucker Proxy or Intolerable Cruelty have a quirky aesthetic that makes them watchable, if not always enjoyable. I’m thinking I should give The Man Who Wasn’t There a second chance, now.

Hopefully, this will inspire you to go check out some of the films from these filmmakers, if you haven’t seen them already.  Also, is it just me, or does anyone else forget what Daniel Day-Lewis looks like without a silly period moustache?
