How old is this modem, anyway?

I’ve already chronicled my recent cable internet problems, but some good did come out of the whole situation. I learned that Motorola SurfBoard cable modems have a diagnostic page built in that you can access by visiting http://192.168.100.1 – it even works when your computer is behind a router! If you’re experiencing problems with your cable internet, and you hate calling tech support as much as I do, you can access this page to see if you can figure out the problem by yourself. If you don’t know what any of it means (I honestly don’t, either), you can do some quick googling and probably find your answer.

While poking around on this, though, I did find something mildly amusing. When the modem was unable to get a signal, it fell back to the default date, which was a little earlier than I’d expect it to be.

Woah, far out

Dude, I had no idea that cable modems were older than Betamax. Groovy.
