What the hell is wrong with Microsoft?
4I’ve never really understood the devotion of die-hard Apple fanatics. You know the type: the ones who have owned all four versions of the iPhone, the ones who think the Apple TV was a good idea, the ones who will argue with a straight face that Aperture can be just as good as Photoshop.
I’ve often thought it must be hard to be an Apple fanboy. It’s not unlike being in an abusive relationship; no matter how much disdain Cupertino shows for their customers, they continue to make excuses, talk about how much they love their giant iPod, and bend over when Apple launches their next annual More >
I no longer fear hell, for I have dealt with Xbox support
1I recently purchased an Xbox 360 Elite, partially to relieve the burden of my first-gen 360′s crowded hard drive, and partially to serve as a Media Center extender for my impending conversion to a Media Center DVR. And I was quite happy to have a brand new controller, one where the joysticks centered properly and the nubs hadn’t been worn off.
Except the controller that came with the Elite was broken. The left trigger squeaked and stuck, which means I’d be stuck with my face in my sights in Modern Warfare 2 while being shot to death from the side. When something affects a man’s kill/death More >
The Worth of a Guarantee (a sad but true story)
2Internet problems. Not again. Not after everything I went through before, I thought.
The internet was down, all right. The tubes to my house must have been clogged. I had no choice, I had to call customer service.
I hate calling customer service.
I told the robot on the other end what the skinny was. He seemed sympathetic, but I suppose he was programmed to seem that way. Then I held. I held for what seemed like an eternity, playing solitaire and listening to jazz on speakerphone. Then she answered.
An accent, I thought. Fantastic. Why do they always have to have accents? Hers was More >
We now resume our regularly scheduled programming
0Things have been pretty busy at Casa de Rage, lately, so I apologize for the dearth of posts. A great many things have happened over the past several weeks, and I look forward to telling you all about them. For now, here is a short summary of things that happened to me while I was away from the keyboard. During the time I wasn’t blogging, I:
- Visited a casino and found out why the “Bet max” button on a slot machine should never be used.
- Formulated a plan to help rid the world of terrible restaurant servers.
- Perfected my Siegfried in Soul Calibur IV.
- Had my Dash Express GPS break, and More >
Na-na-na na, na-na-na na, hey heyyyyy, goodbye cable modem
3I’ve mentioned before the issues I was having with my cable internet service. Well, now that I’m no longer an unemployed guy with too much free time, and I’m now officially a telecommuter (there are surprising similarities, except now I’m paid, so that’s nice), my internet connection is very important. And my Time Warner connection started dropping, routinely, in the morning, and coming back sometime around 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening. Customer service was no help, and the technician they were supposed to send never showed, never called, and no one followed up on the open service call. More >
Pardon the interruption…
0My WONDERFUL and RELIABLE web host seemed to have temporarily misplaced my database earlier today, so the site was inaccessible for a few hours. Sadly, the site’s downtime has been shorter than my wait on hold with technical support.
On a COMPLETELY UNRELATED note, does anyone know of any good, cheap webhosts? No reason. Just curious.
Best customer service not involving nudity
2So I recently ordered a Dash Express GPS receiver from Amazon, and I was excited enough to shell out for next-day shipping (okay, I did the free trial of Amazon Prime, so it was only four bucks…but still!). I placed the order in the middle of the day on Wednesday, so I was saddened and surprised when I checked my account status on Thursday, only to find the item hadn’t shipped. After a quick call to their incredibly cordial customer support, they confirmed the item was in stock and would ship that day, and they refunded the shipping charge. I was a little upset that I’d have to wait one More >
